Dear Second Grade Families,
This Thursday afternoon from 3:15-3:45, Rooms 16, 17, and 19 will host a “Second Grade Read-Aloud” to celebrate the great writing that has been happening in the second grade. (Please note that Ms. Bunday and Room 18 held their celebration last Thursday.) Parents are welcome to come to your student’s homeroom classroom to hear one piece of narrative writing that has been created this year. We hope to see you there!
On Friday, we will end 2016 with a winter friendship celebration in our homeroom classrooms. If you would like to participate, please bring in 2 dozen cookies (24 cookie) to your homeroom on Friday morning. We will supply the baggies and will facilitate the cookie exchange part of the day during our normal Fun Friday period (11:20-12:00). We ask that students do not bring cookies with nuts, due to allergies on campus. Thank you for helping to make this celebration a fun way to end our year and begin our winter break!
Friday is a 1:00 PM dismissal and the last day of school in 2016! The second grade team will send home a Winter Break packet for students to work on throughout the time off. This packet is designed to reinforce the concepts we studied during the first months of school and build on those skills so that our second graders will be ready to jump back in with lessons in January. Three weeks away from school is a very long time to go without refreshing and reviewing skills. Don’t get stuck in that winter trap of forgetting math and reading concepts. If your Caliber Dragon works on the packet a little bit every day, he/she will be ready for classes in January when we return. Packets will go home this Wednesday and will be due on Friday, January 6th.
With our best wishes for a wonderful winter break,
The Second Grade Team
